Creating The Digital Discussion On Climate Change The newest Ecosphere 2.0 for Rio 20 is viewable HERE and because it's WebGL it's best viewed using Google Chrome. Working in collaboration with Stink Digital and Heimat Berlin we were finally able to put some of our data visualization and WebGL research to work for a great brand and an even better cause. At the 17th Conference of the Parties, the United Nations invited a large number of delegates to Durbin to talk about climate change. For this project we developed a real-time data visualizer that would represent the conversation about climate change on Twitter when conversations were tagged with #COP17. At the core of this project we wanted to find a way to graphically represent the discussion, and what better way than to build an ecosystem of our own, a digital ecosphere? We started with coding a website with a 3D globe that allowed trees to grow from it in order to represent the various conversations at the conference and by interested parties. CNN called for contributions before the conference and the ecosphere began to grow organically. At the event we turned the website into an installation to bring the conversation to the delegates. With WebGL and our proprietary Atlantis platform this project took on a life of its own educating politicians, activists, and newcomers to the global climate discussion, with a little hope the ecosphere will continue to grow in the years to come and have a real impact.
